Ordered by the question sequence in the original exam.
-
Question 1
Numerical Integration
Find a formula of the form \[ \int _0^{2\pi } f(x)\,dx = A_1 f(0)+A_2 f(\pi ) \] that is exact for any function having the form \[ f(x)=c+d\cos (x). \]

-
Question 3
Singular Value Decomposition (SVD)
a) Consider \(A\in \mathbb {C}^{m\times n}\). Define what we mean by the singular value decomposition of \(A\).
b) Consider \(A\in \mathbb {C}^{m\times m}\) and show that \[ \lvert \det (A)\rvert =\prod _{i=1}^m\sigma _i, \] where \(\{\sigma _i\}\) are the singular values of \(A\).
